About Santiago de Chile

Santiago, also known as Santiago de Chile, is the largest and capital city of Chile. It was founded back in 1541 by the Spanish and has been the capital of Chile since then. The city lies within the central valley, between 500 m and 650 m above sea level and surrounded by Andes Mountains, which contribute to its climate.

Like the rest of the country, Santiago experiences a significant amount of tectonic activity, that is why some of the historic monuments from the Spanish colonial period have been destroyed and nowadays the most relevant ones are Casa Colorada, San Francisco Church and Posada del Corregidor

While your stay in Santiago de Chile, you shouldn’t miss its central square, Plaza de Armas, the Presidential Palace, Palacio de La Moneda, the Chilean National History Museum, the National Library, one of the largest libraries of South America, and if you wish to take a walk, get to Parque Forestal.
